His voice has been silenced; his pictures on the field will no longer be appreciated. Samuel Ajieka Abuwe, son of Ngie in the Momo division of the North West Region is gone. The 35year old young Cameroonian has been described as “Best pidgin animator” of his time, while he worked with Chillen Music Television in Buea.
WAS HE ARRESTED?
IF YES, HOW?
Difficult to answer as versions differ. The government tags him as a separatist spy and adds he was arrested during an operation of security forces in Ekona on August 3, 2019. His family rather talks of a phone call he received from the Muea police station and, to which he went, and never returned.
His silence became too noisy for the media landscape as they clamoured for his release. A group of lawyers gathered to defend Samuel WAZIZI as his case opened at the Fako High Court in Buea, South Rest Region. 1, 2, 3… 8 court hearings all suffered adjournments in the absence of the accused. Defense lawyers and journalists staged a sit in strike in front the court premises and were granted a habeas corpus for the 9th court hearing booked for June 9, 2020.
Wednesday, June 3, 2020, news of his death went viral on social media platforms with a hashtag demanding justice – #JUSTICE FOR WAZIZI. Three days after that, we’re on June 6, 2020, the ministry of defence through Captain SERGE ATONGFACK, head of communication at the ministry made public his death, clearly indicating he died of SEVERE SEPSIS on August 17, 2019, just ten days after he was put at the disposal of elements of the 21st motorized infantry batallion.
Only, South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai told journalists Samuel Ajieka left Buea in the South West Region for Yaounde in the Centre Region in good shape.
Whatever happened between Buea and Yaounde will forever remain a mystery. The man is gone with his own version of the story, not even being able to celebrate his 36th birthday on June 5 2020.
REST IN PEACE SAMUEL WAZIZI.
